Thousands of Kilometers To The Beaches of Puerto Escondido
Over the course of several months, I heard great things about the Beach town of Puerto Escondido (or perhaps it’s already a city?)
I personally wasn’t impressed with the beach city of Cancun, since it was simply a large strip of massive walled hotels facing the ocean, while the rest of the city is your typical grey concrete blocks.
Nor does Cancun feature any of the absolutely rich historical Mexican cultures, instead feeding into a simply spring-break narrative of alcohol, and sunshine.
Playa Del Carmen, which is just 1 hour south of Cancun, was a bit better since it allowed locals and foreigners to mix freely within the long touristy boulevard. But the recurring phrase of “tourist trap” kept coming up since prices were inflated at least 2 or 3 times.
But then there was the idea of Puerto Escondido, a Cancun and Playa del Carmen BEFORE they became massive tourist traps, and walled-off hotel compounds.
So I hopped on a bus from Mexico City, and after a couple of stops in Tehuacan, the Magical Colonial City of Oaxaca, and the psychedelic mountain retreat of San Jose Del Pacifico, I made it to this new adventure of Puerto Escondido.
Puerto Escondido, Sunshine & Motorbike Rides
Coincidentally, I was on my way to meet friends from Mexico City, hence why I avoided delaying with a mushroom-infused retreat in San Jose del Pacifico.
While San Jose Del Pacifico was cloudy, moist, and cool, Puerto Escondido was hot, humid, and full of sunshine every day.
Upon checking into my hotel, I met up with friends, went to go rent a motorbike, and so began the adventure in sunny Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
My only concern was that I hadn’t ridden a motorbike in almost 7 years. The last time was in Thailand and the Philippines.

A Quick Motorbike Ride 2 Hours Away to Playa Zipolite
The following day, the 2 female friends I was with wanted to visit Playa Zipolite, only 2 hours away by motorbike.
This is a popular, yet quiet nude beach where the girls wanted to get a bit of sunshine on parts unknown 😉

Final Days in Puerto Escondido
My total adventure only lasted about 3 days in Puerto Escondido, although the full journey out of Mexico City was almost 1 week.
After seeing the Magical colonial city of Oaxaca, crossing into the mountains of San Jose del Pacifico, and getting some sunshine in Puerto Escondido, it was time to head back to Mexico City.

Puerto Escondido Conclusion
I thought to myself whether Puerto Escondido could be the place to ultimately retire, and enjoy a much slower pace of life.
While I do enjoy the trappings and liberties of big cities, I also enjoy the quiet and more focused lifestyle of a place like Puerto Escondido.
My friend from Mexico City wanted to retire here eventually as a DJ but has yet to commit to the idea.
Maybe one day I will?
As always
